Purpose

The aim of the conference is to:

  • Build mutual understanding of the current internationalisation agenda between HE institutions in Taiwan and the UK
  • Share best practice and experiences in institutional links
  • Facilitate direct dialogue and communication between HE institutions in Taiwan and the UK

We also expect the conference to inform joint planning between the Ministry of Education, the Foundation for International Cooperation in Higher Education of Taiwan and the British Council and to help us develop a series of annual conferences.

Key themes

There will be three key themes in the conference, selected through consultation with UK and Taiwan universities:

  • A. Joint degrees and courses
  • B. Research and academic collaboration
  • C. International student recruitment

Format

  • Plenaries – keynote speeches to address issues around internationalization, by UK and Taiwan VIP speakers
  • Parallel sessions – sessions on the key conference themes by UK and Taiwan HE institutions, including joint presentations to share best practice in collaborative links, in presentation or workshop format.
  • Panel discussions – including a closing plenary discussion.
  • Mini education exhibition by Taiwan HE institutions – giving opportunities for UK HE institution representatives to have direct dialogue with Taiwan HE institutions by visiting their stands in the course of the event.

LANGUAGE

The language of the conference will be English. However, selected parallel sessions may be offered in Chinese if appropriate.

Delegates

We are expecting around 80 UK and 100 Taiwanese universities to attend. A detailed list of delegates will be provided in the printed conference programme.

Reception

There will be a joint reception for the UK-Taiwan HE Conference and the Education UK Exhibition at 20.00 on Friday 2 November at the Taipei International Conference Centre. Admission to the reception is included in the conference and exhibition packages.

Cost

Admission to the conference is free for Taiwan Scheme members – up to three delegates per institution. Non-members will be charged an admission fee of £450.
